Vishay Releases New Series of Miniature IR Receivers in Four AGC Versions with Ultra-Thin 1.3 mm Top-View Profile

MALVERN, Pa.— Jan. 10, 2011— Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) is broadening its optoelectronics portfolio with the release of a new series of miniature IR receivers for remote control systems that combine a PIN diode, preamplifier, and internal filter for PCM frequency in one ultra-thin package with a 1.3 mm top-view profile. The design of the TSOP85…AP5 devices results in a high sensitivity-to-size ratio, with irradiance from 0.15 mW/sqm to 0.35 mW/sqm over wide angles of± 75°.

The devices released today are offered in four automatic gain control (AGC) versions. TheTSOP852..AP5is compatible with all common IR remote control data formats. TheTSOP853..AP5andTSOP854..AP5suppress almost all spurious pulses from energy-saving fluorescent lamps. Offering excellent noise suppression, theTSOP855..AP5is immune to dimmed LCD backlighting and any fluorescent lamps. In addition, theTSOP853..AP5andTSOP855..AP5are both compatible with short-burst codes.

The TSOP85…AP5 receivers offer low typical power consumption with a supply current of 0.35 mA typical at 3.3 V. The devices are insensitive to supply voltage and ripple noise and offer an improved immunity against ambient light. The devices’ epoxy lens cap is designed as an IR filter.

The TSOP85…AP5 series was designed to fulfill the needs of industrial and consumer products where space is extremely limited but maximum performance is required. The devices are optimized for remote control and data transmission applications in small handheld electronics, such as notebook computers and digital still cameras, as well as ultra-thin LCD TVs.

The receivers offer a supply voltage range of 2.5 V to 5.5 V and operate over a carrier frequency of 36 kHz to 56 kHz. The devices offer a 35 m transmission distance and are pin-to-pin compatible with market standards. All devices are in accordance with RoHS 2002/95/EC and WEEE 2002/96/EC, and are halogen-free according to the IEC 61249-2-21 definition.

Samples and production quantities of the TSOP85…AP5 receivers are available now, with lead times of four to six weeks for large orders.

Video Webinar on 3DTV Active Glasses Infrared Receivers Debuts on Vishay Intertechnology Website

MALVERN, PENNSYLVANIA— Jan. 6, 2011— A video webinar detailing how infrared receivers work in 3DTV active shutter glasses was recently added to the website of Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH).

The infrared receiver is used in 3DTV glasses where it receives a synchronization signal from the 3D television set and opens and closes LCD shutters in each lens of the glasses to create the stereoscopic 3DTV effect.

Vishay’sTSOP75D25andTSOP35D25infrared receivers were developed specifically for the LCD shutter glasses application. The receivers operate on a carrier frequency of 25 kHz, which is lower than that used by standard remote control systems and thus helps avoid possible interference from TV and set-top box remote controls.

To further avoid the possibility of interference, theTSOP75D25andTSOP35D25are designed to receive the 3D synchronization signals from an 830 nm or 850 nm emitter, rather than on the 940 nm wavelength used by remote control emitters for TVs and set-top boxes. Like all of Vishay’s IR receivers, theTSOP75D25andTSOP35D25feature the best available suppression of optical noise from compact fluorescent lights, LCD backlights, and plasma panels.

TheTSOP75D25andTSOP35D25integrate a photodiode, amplifier, automatic gain control, band pass filter, demodulator, and control IC into a single tiny package which helps minimize the weight of 3DTV active glasses, while their ultra-low current consumption maximizes the battery life. Because these new IR receivers receive modulated synchronization signals versus baseband signals, a single emitter can be used in the TV to achieve a synchronize transmit distance of more than 26 meters.

TheTSOP75D25andTSOP35D25are surface mount devices that can be mounted in a side or top view. They both have a viewing angle of± 50° which allows for significant head movement without signal loss. TheTSOP75D25measures 2.3 mm x 3.0 mm x 6.8 mm and has dual lenses while theTSOP35D25measures 4.0 mm x 5.3 mm x 7.5 mm and has a single lens.
