Vishay Introduces Industry’s First 2 V Supply Option for IR Receivers for Remote Control−Available in Six Package Types

MALVERN, Pa.— Feb. 21, 2011— To address the need for lower operating voltages in battery-operated consumer products, Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today broadened its optoelectronics portfolio with the introduction of a new“V” low-voltage supply option for 10 of its TSOP IR receiver series. TheVseries devices operate with a stable sensitivity rating at a very low supply voltage down to 2 V over a temperature range of + 5°C to + 85 °C.

In 2-cell alkaline battery applications, a typical discharge curve under a 160 mA load goes from 3 V down to 2.5 V after about 3 hours of operation. This would represent the end of life for a standard receiver operating down to 2.5 V. The typical non-linear battery discharge curve then provides a further 13 hours of operation before reaching 2 V. Thus a receiver capable of operating to 2 V can extend the useful battery life by a factor of more than 4.

Typical end products for Vishay’sVseries include small handheld battery powered systems such as digital still cameras, bi-directional remote controls, and 3D goggles. For additional power savings in battery-powered systems, the receivers feature a stand-by function.

TheVoption is available for 10 of Vishay’s TSOP series IR receivers in six package types, including:

    • TSOP312…, TSOP313…, and TSOP314… in cast packages

    • TSOP38… and TSOP39… in MiniCast packages

    • TSOP32… and TSOP34… in molded packages

    • TSOP35… in standard SMD packages

    • TSOP75… in Heimdall packages

    • TSOP85… in bugeye packages

For ordering information please, see theV-option datasheet on Vishay’s website. Samples and production quantities of the V series IR receivers are available now, with lead times of four to six weeks for large orders.

Vishay Siliconix Dual 20 V P-Channel TrenchFET® Gen III Power MOSFET Offers Industry’s Lowest On-Resistance Down to 54 mΩat 4.5 V in the 2 mm by 2 mm Footprint Area

MALVERN, PENNSYLVANIA— Feb. 10, 2011— Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today introduced a new dual 20 V p-channel TrenchFET® Gen III power MOSFET with an 8 V gate-to-source voltage featuring the lowest on-resistance ever achieved for a dual p-channel device in the thermally enhanced PowerPAK® SC-70 2 mm by 2 mm footprint area.

The newSiA923EDJwill be used for dc-to-dc converters, as well as for charger and load switches in handheld devices such as smart phones, MP3 players, tablet PCs, and eBooks. The MOSFET’s lower on-resistance translates into lower conduction losses, saving power and prolonging battery life between charges in these devices.

TheSiA923EDJoffers an ultra-low on-resistance of 54 mΩ at 4.5 V, 70 mΩ at 2.5 V, 104 mΩ at 1.8 V, and 165 mΩ at 1.5 V. The closest competing p-channel device with an 8 V gate-to-source rating features on-resistance of 60 mΩ at 4.5 V, 80 mΩ at 2.5 V, 110 mΩ at 1.8 V, and 170 mΩ at 1.5 V. These values are 10 %, 12 %, 5 %, and 3 % higher, respectively, than theSiA923EDJ.

The MOSFET’s on-resistance ratings down to 1.5 V allow the device to work with the lower-voltage gate drives and lower bus voltages common in handheld devices, without the space and cost of level-shifting circuitry. TheSiA923EDJ’s low on-resistance also means a lower voltage drop at peak currents to better prevent unwanted undervoltage lockout events. The compact 2 mm by 2 mm PowerPAK SC-70 package is half the size of the TSOP-6, with comparable or better on-resistance and the ability to dissipate 65 % more power under the same ambient conditions.

100 % Rg tested, theSiA923EDJis halogen-free in accordance with IEC 61249-2-21 and compliant to RoHS Directive 2002/95/EC. The MOSFET offers typical ESD protection of 2500 V.

TheSiA923EDJcomplements the previously released 20 VSiA921EDJp-channel MOSFET with a 12 V gate-to-source maximum voltage rating. With the release of theSiA923EDJ, designers can now choose between the higher gate drive voltage of theSiA921EDJor a device with a lower threshold voltage and lower on-resistance.

Samples and production quantities of the newSiA923EDJTrenchFET power MOSFET are available now, with lead times of 14 to 16 weeks for larger orders.

Vishay Intertechnology Releases New Infrared Emitter with Extremely High Radiant Intensity of 600 mW/sr, High Optical Power to 55 mW, and Fast Switching Times of 10 ns

MALVERN, Pa.— Feb. 3, 2011— Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today broadened its optoelectronics portfolio with the release of a new 850 nm infrared emitter featuring a parabolic lens for a very narrow± 3° angle of half intensity. Based on a unique surface emitter chip technology, theVSLY5850offers enormous radiant intensity of 600 mW/sr at a 100 mA drive current, high optical power to 55 mW, and fast 10 ns switching times.

The surface emitter technology used in theVSLY5850represents a unique die construction in which all the light generated inside the semiconductor is emitted through the top surface of the chip. This greatly reduces side emissions out of the device’s 5 mm T1{#xBE} plastic package, providing the user with a narrow, well-directed emission beam without disturbing fractions towards the sides.

The emitter’s extraordinarily high radiant intensity allows significant intensities to be achieved at low drive currents, reducing power consumption by up to 3x when compared to the next available intensity class of infrared emitters, and extending operating life in battery driven infrared applications.

TheVSLY5850is optimized for IR illumination in CMOS cameras, fire alarm systems, and smoke detectors. The emitter’s fast switching times also make it ideal for use in high modulation frequency applications for long-range data transmission in road cash systems, traffic controls, and license plate flashing. The device’s high optical power allows designers to reduce component count and/or improve performance in these applications.

The new emitter offers an operating temperature from− 40°C to + 85 °C and is suitable for high pulse current operation. TheVSLY5850is compliant to RoHS directive 2002/95/EC and WEEE 2002/96/EC, and halogen-free according to the IEC 61249-2-21 definition

Samples and production quantities of the newVSLY5850emitter are available now, with lead times of 8 to 10 weeks for larger orders.
